Sri Lanka needs to Address rising Gun Violence as a High Priority

In light of the rise in incidents of gun violence across Sri Lanka, the FDD encourages Sri Lanka to become a party to the Arms Trade Treaty, and re-engage with the UN Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons (PoA). Further, it is crucial that we amend outdated local legislation and re-establish the National Commission Against the Proliferation of Illicit Small Arms (NCAPISA) for coordinating the approaches related to small-arms related problems in Sri Lanka.
